GLE Overview and Student Experience
GLE Overview and the Student Experience
GLOBE Learning Expeditions (GLEs) are organized every few years in order to provide students from around the world the opportunity to present their GLOBE research projects to their peers, to GLOBE scientists, and the greater GLOBE community. These conferences also provide students with the opportunity to establish friendships and to develop collaborative partnerships that will enhance their future GLOBE experiences.
Teachers are provided with an opportunity to share innovative ideas and challenges, to attend protocol and related professional development sessions, and to build connections for research efforts between schools.
The 2018 GLE will be held in Killarney, Ireland, with a theme of "Mountain, Woods, and Water: Developing a Sense of Place." Student projects for the GLE should fit into one of the following categories:
- Environmental Problems and Solutions
- Developing a Sense of Place: Connections between Observations and Measurements across
Spheres - New Technologies and GLOBE
Students are encouraged to submit their projects to the GLOBE International Virtual Science Symposium (IVSS) and use feedback from that to update their projects for the GLE. Projects are due to the IVSS on 01 March 2018.
Student Experience
Students also have the opportunity to share their culture through song, dance, games, etc. during the GLE Culture Nights. Students are not required to share during the culture events, but it is a wonderful opportunity for students to get to know each other.
In addition to giving presentations and sharing culture, students will also be in the field collecting data and learning about Killarney National Park. For three mornings, students will be out in the field. Guidelines on clothing will be provided closer to the time of the meeting.
