WestEd, a not-for-profit research, development, and service agency, works with education and other communities to promote excellence, achieve equity, and improve learning for children, youth and adults. Two departments collaborate to support GLOBE implementation.
• WestEd's Health and Human Development Program researches and evaluates conditions that promote academic achievement and positive youth development. It supports the development of strategies such as project-based and out-of-school learning that prepare students for careers and civic participation as well as postsecondary success.
• WestEd's Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) program promotes quality science, mathematics, and technology education for all students. It advances research and provides professional development in such areas as culture and language and international science education. With the Pacific Resources for Education and Learning (PREL), STEM also co-leads the Pacific Islands Climate Change Education Partnership (PCEP), funded by the National Science Foundation.
WestEd partners with the College and Career Academy Support Network (CCASN) based at the University of California Berkeley. CCASN is dedicated to the goal of improving high schools, particularly through career academies and other small learning communities, preparing students for both postsecondary education and future careers. It conducts research and evaluations and provides resources and technical assistance to a growing number of "green" academies in California and throughout the nation.
